CHRISTY’S PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I’ve Been Where You Are
In 2012, I died of a heart attack caused by a rare condition called Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) and was revived by emergency department medical staff.I then endured an emergency cardiac procedure of placing stents in my heart and had a very long recovery with multiple complications. I later ended up having an Implanted Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) in case my heart stops again. Thank God, it hasn’t happened since then!
At that time, I was a single mom of two young children and I experienced firsthand the devastation of losing my independence, relying on family support and facing death. So, I get it when someone is losing these aspect of their lives. After I recovered, I talked to my parents about where and how they wanted to age. How finances may impact what they wanted and if they were willing to have other caregivers (in addition to me) come into their home to help if needed.
I felt very “called upon” to start my business after the sudden death of my dad about 2 years ago. We had always been very close and he had been an entrepeneur most of his life. This personal experience and my decades of being an Occupational Therapist fuels my passion for helping others live as independently as possible in their homes, supported by practical solutions and compassionate care.
Without any kind of planning for this scenario, usually a crisis/sh*t show happens and ends up with the parent being forced to live in a facility on government assistance. (after selling almost everything they own), when this wasn’t their choice. While that scenario is sometimes the best option for some people, it doesn’t have to be the only option if you think ahead now. I have seen so many family members/caregivers (usually kids or siblings of the elder person) become so stressed and physically and mentally ill trying to deal with the crisis that it significantly diminishes their quality of life and can destroy family relationships At that point, those caregivers often have long term illnesses and the damage has been done.
I understand the guilt, fear, anxiety, and frustration that comes with aging or caregiving—whether it’s managing your own needs or those of a loved one. I’m here to guide you through these issues with empathy and expertise, helping you embrace a life of safety and comfort in your own home.
